Warning: This is what you get when I am bored and in need of fluff and ask Jen for a prompt. She wanted a New Years fic with a proposal. My brain apparently was being nice and wrote the first part. Then my brain went on strike and when certain people demanded more, I told them to write the rest themselves. They did. Enjoy.

It had become a tradition to celebrate New Years at Angel’s. A tradition Cameron kept up all through his academy years and then Veronica ended up going alone for the next four years. He hadn’t really thought he would be able to make the party until at last minute his CO informed him that he was cleared to go home.
When Cameron stumbled into the Hyperion, the hall was crowded and he couldn’t remember there even being so many people at Fandom. Still, they were familiar faces for the most part and he weaved his way through the crowd, receiving shoulder pats along the way and surprised greetings from people who thought he couldn’t make it. He didn’t stop long enough however to talk to anyone as he was set on finding one particular blonde in the crowd. It’d be a lot easier if she were taller.
And then he walked right into her. Literally. He was grateful that she still didn’t like to drink alcohol so she only spilled water over her blouse. Not that it mattered as thrust her now empty glass into Angel’s hand and then almost pounced Cameron.
“You’re here! I thought you couldn’t make it,” she proclaimed, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. It was good to be home.
“I was wrong,” he grinned and hugged her back as tightly.
Veronica pulled back after a while, her eyes were shining as she reached up and stroked a hand over his cheek. “You made it,” she whispered with a note of disbelief.
Closing his eyes briefly – just briefly because he’d missed looking at her, - Cameron tilted his head into the touch and smiled. “Yeah, I did.”
He missed the sound of her laughter and the feel of her fingers as they cupped the back of his head. He missed the way his hands fitted almost perfectly on the small of her back and how her body pressed against him as if their height difference didn’t matter. Her lips were soft and warm, and she must have had some champagne earlier because there was the barest hint of alcohol on her tongue.
They didn’t quite break apart, their lips still brushing as their breath mingled. Her eyes were glistening, but it was definitely a good thing and he felt insanely happy. Felt it bubbling in his chest, rising until he laughed out loud and swept her up in his arms.
Angel made a remark that Cameron couldn’t quite make out before Angel wandered off and after a while, Veronica pushed against Cameron’s shoulder. “Put me down, you big oaf.”
He looked sorry for a whole of two seconds before he was stroking her cheeks and kissing her forehead and this was definitely better than being on a sugar rush. Her remark that people were starting to watch was completely ignored, but he settled down after a moment and she shook her head in amusement at him. “Better?”
He laughed, kissed her nose and pulled back. “Almost.”
“Almost?” Veronica repeated, but her sceptical look was completely lost as she couldn’t suppress her own grin.
“Almost,” he nodded and caught her hand, gently tugging her along towards the small inner court.
“Cameron…” Veronica complained, but he could tell that it was more out of habit than anything else as she followed him easily. “It’s almost midnight and it’s too cold to sit outside.”
“I’ll keep you warm,” he promised, pushing open the door and guiding her into the garden.
“Uh huh, I’m going to keep you to that,” she promised, automatically moving to a quiet corner of the court where they could hardly hear the music coming from inside.
It was just cold enough for everyone to stick inside and with the countdown to midnight coming nearer, everyone wanted to be where the action was anyway. Cameron decided all the action he wanted was right here and as he noticed her shiver, he pulled off his heavy coat and draped it across her shoulders.
“Not quite how I’d imagined to be warmed up, Captain,” Veronica teased and caught his hand.
“No?” he grinned at her, his eyes having adjusted to the dark enough so that he could easily make her out. “I’m sorry. You had a better idea then?”
“I know you think you’re really funny right now,” Veronica told him and he could easily imagine her rolling her eyes at him, “but you’re really not.” She followed the statement by stepping closer and slipping her free arm around his waist.
Chuckling, he slid an arm around her shoulders and took in a slow breath. The crisp winter air helped clear his head, but it did nothing to calm him down as the high was replaced by nerves.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Veronica whispered as she leaned her head against his shoulder.
“So am I,” he said softly, his voice hardly standing out against the muffled sounds of the party inside. He shivered when she let go of his hand and worked her hand under his shirt, her cool fingers pressing against his skin.
Things went quiet around them, or maybe he just stopped paying attention to anything but Veronica. It soothed the last of his nerves knowing how easy they fell into these quiet moments even after not having seen each other for so long. Veronica shifted in his arms, pressing closer against him and he could feel the small box in the inner pocket of his jacket against his chest.
Veronica frowned and pulled back a little. “What on Earth do you keep in here?” she asked, adjusting the coat.
Grinning, Cameron brushed her hair back from her forehead. “Maybe you should look.”
She gave him a confused look, her eyebrows knitting together and he missed being able to do that to her. He missed a lot of things.
Her arms fell away from around him as she pulled back and opened the coat. She pulled the small velvet box out of the pocket and her frown deepened as she glanced up at him. “Cameron?”
He shrugged and had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from grinning too stupidly. For a second it looked like her hands were shaking, but it might as well have been the cold as the next moment she steadily opened the box. He stepped to the side a little, letting more light from the hotel fall on her so she could better see.
There was the soft in draw of breath and then she looked up at him again. “Is this…? Are you…? What is this?”
Figuring that he deserved some bonus points for making Veronica Mars speechless, Cameron shrugged a shoulder, trying to look cooler than he was really feeling. “It’s whatever you want it to be,” he replied, knowing full well what he wanted. It just had never been on his to do list, but somehow being with her had messed up all his plans.
“That’s a seriously lame way to propose, Mitchell,” she scolded him, but her voice hitched and he wondered just how much he had shocked her.
He hummed in agreement and stepped closer, wrapping his fingers around her wrist. There was hardly any room to breathe between them, but as she looked up at him it suddenly felt so easy. “I want to marry you,” he whispered, then wondered why he was whispering.
She didn’t reply, just reached up and brushed her fingers along his cheek and he remembered that maybe he should actually put that in a question form. “Will you? Marry me?”
Veronica laughed and she rested her palm against his cheek as she stood on tiptoes to press warm lips against his. He might have gone momentarily deaf or maybe she never really managed to answer out loud, but he felt her reply as she spoke with her mouth still pressed against his.
He eagerly leaned down, deepening the kiss and her arms went around his neck so he could feel the jewellery box scratch at his nape, reminding him that there was a proper way to go about it.
After several more kisses, he finally managed to pull back and took the box from her fingers. The ring felt cold and he warmed it up in the palm of his hand before sliding it onto her finger. He grinned as she still seemed to be completely speechless as she stared down at her hand. Then again, he was finding it really hard to say anything himself.
Stroking both hands through her hair, he pressed a kiss to her forehead before pulling her close. She easily settled against him, her hand resting on his chest, the ring catching the little light that there was in the court. “That wasn’t so hard now, was it?” she finally managed.
Cameron smiled and tightened his arms around her. “No, it really wasn’t.”
Hearing the crowd inside cheering, Veronica and Cameron figured it must be the New Year.
Veronica leaned up and kissed him again. “Happy New Year, baby,” she whispered. “We should probably head back in before Angel sends out the search party.”
Cameron snickered. “You just want to show off your ring.”
“Maybe a little,” she admitted with a grin, grabbing his hand and tugging him back toward the house.
Either Cameron and Veronica entered the room during a break in conversation or they just glowing too much, but as they came in, all eyes focused on them.
Cameron couldn't contain his goofy grin. "Guess they were worried about us."
“We were starting to wonder if you two were going to join us again,” Angel said, lifting his eyebrow a bit as his eyes immediately focused on Veronica’s left hand.
“Sorry, we had some catching up to do,” Veronica smiled.
"Catching up or making plans?" Angel replied wryly, glancing from Veronica's hand to Cameron's face.
Cameron, if possible, just grinned more and pulled Veronica into a hug. "I think we have an announcement to make," he murmured into her hair.
Everyone in the room was watching this exchange with great interest, but it was Cally who spoke before Cameron and Veronica had a chance. “Is that an engagement ring on your finger?” she demanded.
The entire room started buzzing with excitement as the happy couple’s grins confirmed Cally’s words and they were quickly surrounded by eager well wishers.
Glasses of champagne were pushed into their hands even before the glitter started raining down. At the instant glares, Jaye looked innocent. "I didn't realize I needed to bring my flags! I have to make do somehow!"
Cameron laughed and pulled Veronica closer to his side.
Marty rolled his eyes. “Can’t we even hug your fiancé?” he asked.
Veronica squeezed Cameron’s hand and stepped forward to accept Marty’s hug.
Willow took that opportunity to grab Cameron’s arm and whisper frantically in his ear, “Did you hit your head?”
Peter followed Willow and shook Cam's hand, not giving him a chance to answer Willow. "Congratulations, Stickbug Brother. Glad you finally got around to it."
Willow rolled her eyes. "Yes, but..."
Somehow, Veronica managed to glare at Willow over Marty's, then Angela's shoulders.
Nadia and Cally were next in line and started squabbling over who got to hug Veronica first. She laughed and shook her head, wrapping one arm around each of them.
“You guys are probably gonna go have celebratory sex now, huh?” Cally asked.
Nadia smacked Cally’s arm and Veronica glanced at Cameron to see if he had overheard the remark. The bright blush on his face confirmed that he had.
"You'll have us all week," Veronica said, continuing to look at Cameron, hoping that was true. Cam nodded minutely and turned back to giving Jamie a hug. Then Jamie. Then Jamie. At the confirmation, Veronica glowed even more. "And he's been on assignment for months."
Cally sighed. "I thought so."
“We can have celebratory sex, too,” Mac offered her girlfriend, stepping forward to hug Veronica. “Congrats, Bond.”
“Thanks, Q,” Veronica replied with a grin.
“Please just promise you won’t make me wear pink taffeta in your wedding,” Mac continued.
"Blue then?" Veronica teased. "It'll go so well with Cam's tuxedo. You can have matching butt bows."
Mac made a face which was echoed by Cally, Nadia, and Piper who'd just pushed her way through.
"We can arrange to loose a gremlin in your honeymoon suite, you know," Nadia said, fingering what was probably a knife under her dress.
Cameron perked up at that suggestion. “Hey, you think I’d argue with my wife wanting to dress up in leather and give me a lap dance on our honeymoon?”
“She was pretty good,” Angel and Xander both agreed, immediately glaring at each other.
“I thought you liked it when I stripped in your uniform better, baby,” Veronica remarked innocently.
Cameron swallowed hard and blushed but wisely stayed silent while the rest of the group cracked up.
"Hey, V, you ever want to enliven an evening, I can be around" Bel called, smirking.
Phoebe smacked Bel’s arm and Cam glared at him, knowing what was coming.
“Only if there’s gonna be boykissy,” Veronica replied, ignoring the snickers from the crowd.
“No,” Bel and Cameron both replied immediately.
Jaye fingered her bag of glitter pensively and looked like she was wishing for a flag. "We really need boykissy to properly celebrate." She looked up at Angel and Xander.
“Hell no,” a male voice growled. Ironically it didn’t come from Angel or Xander.
“Why not?” Jaye whined plaintively.
“Because I said so,” Logan replied. His glare was enough to make Jaye drop the subject as he made his way over to congratulate Veronica and Cameron.
He hugged Veronica with a whisper of congratulations then moved on to shake Cameron's hand. "Take care of her, Mitchell."
Cameron was still too happy to glare, but it came close. "Thanks. I knew that already."
Veronica was too busy looking from Logan to Angel with a speculative look on her face to retort that she could take care of herself.
Angel noticed the look and shifted nervously, waving over a waiter with a tray of champagne. “I think this calls for a toast,” he said, waiting for everyone to get a glass. “To Veronica and Cameron!”
“To Veronica and Cameron!” everyone cheered.
And it was debatable who started the chant, but cries for "Kiss! Kiss!" filled the room.
Veronica beamed up at her fiancé and promptly shut out the rest of the room as Cameron leaned down and kissed her. They both got involved in the kiss and it was clear to everyone in the room that they were going to live happily ever after.
